assignment #7

world of work!

I did some research and I found out that there are 6 main sectors, which are the construction sector, the employment sector, information and technology sector, manufacturing sector, the service sector, and the transportation sector.

there are a lot of jobs under those topics; like for example, in the construction sector, there is electrical installation, or carpentry.

the sector that appeals to me is the service sector. it appeals to me because when I'm older, and finished college i want to go to culinary school, and it also appeals to me because I like lots of hands on activities in school (like gym,or art).

these are some of the jobs in each sector
  • brick masonry
  • cabinet making
  • welding

Employment Sector

  •  job interviews
  • job skill demonstration
  • prepared speech
 Manufacturing Sector
  • mechanical  CADD
  • precisision machining
  • robotics
Information and Technology Sector
  •  2D and 3D character computer animation
  • graphic design
  • TV&Video production

Service Sector

  • baking
  • hair styling
  • fashion technology

Transportation Sector

  •  aircraft maintenance
  • automotive repair
  • outdoor power and recreation equipment

I hope to learn more about the service sector when we go on the field trip, or the information and technology sector because those are the things that I an more interested in doing when I get older.

QUESTIONS:

  1. do you have to go to college or university to get into all the jobs?
  2. what jobs don't require any background knowlage?
  3. what is brick masonry?
  4. are these just courses you take before you get into these jobs?
After highschool I want to go to college for computer softeware ( i think tats what its called...) and after I graduate I'm going to apply for a job with the government, and then I will quit after a few years and open up my cupcake shop! So I would have to take IT Office Software Applications in the Information and Technology Sector.

I would also have to take the Baking in the Service Sector.

assignment #5

Island Man (for a Caribbean island man in London who still wakes up to the sound of the sea)
by Grace Nichols
.
Morning
and island man wakes up
to the sound of blue surf
in his head
the steady breaking and wombing
wild seabirds
and fishermen pushing out to sea
the sun surfacing defiantly
from the east
of his small emerald island

.
He always comes back
groggily groggily
comes back to sands
of a grey metallic soar
to a surge of wheels
to dull North Circular roar
muffling muffling
his crumpled pillow waves
island man heaves himself
another London day

I think that I would like to wake up on a beach in Hawaii, because when I was growing up, my parents always told me about how they lived on an island and them and their brothers and sisters used to camp out on the beach. They said it was kind of scary in the silence of the night, with the loud crashes of a wave on the beach and I thought that would be so cool after a scary movie to go sleep out there, but they said that it was so nice to watch the sunrise with the beach slowly coming to life.

assignment # 3

Behind my name: Amy

Before I started this assignment, I thought my name meant love, because in french "aimer", means to love, and it sounds kind of like Amy.
I think my parents chose this name for me because I was the youngest and they felt like they were closest to me then their other kids.

After searching on Behind the Name , I learned that my name means loved or beloved(I was right!)

Some other interesting things I learned is my name can also be spelled as, Aimee,Ami, Amee,Amii, and there's so many other ways as well.
I think my name does suit me because, I'm  not hated by every one and I'm also loving myself

If I could give myself a new name, it would be Suzy, because it means a lily and a lily is a unique flower, and I am pretty unique, because I don't know anyone in this school that is just like me.

assignment #2

Empathy is..
  • freedom to be whoever you want to be
  • accepting others for who they are
  • respecting someone elses perspective
  • being non judgemental to others
My definition for empathy would be that you understand what someone else is going through,by putting yourself in someone else's shoes to figure out how they feel. Empathy reminds me of the word sympathy but the definition for sympathy is slightly different. it means sharing the same feelings with someone else. For example, If your best friend got hurt you would feel their pain and comfort them.Recently our class presented a play for empathy and basically all the skits were tied together by showing everyone you know how they feel and understand what they're going through. I think that empathy is an important quality in a person, because without it, we would be self centered and you may end up with no friends; and then you'll end up in an apartment living alone with ten cats! But, if you empathize for people then you will go pretty far in life. I always think of the other person I'm talking to before I say anything, because probably at some point in your life, you will be put down by some one. But you'll look back on it an realize, "I didn't like how that felt so I'm not going to do it to someone else." And if you have, then you just experienced empathy!
